Pitch Guidelines
Thornton’s Holt is a spacious camping site, our 155 pitches are spread over 14.5 acres. We leave open grass areas for children to play on. Please help us to maintain this open feel by following our pitch guidelines.
- The pitch number marks the centre of the pitch
- A pitch will take a maximum 6 people
- Only one car per pitch
Double Width Hardstandings
Our hardstandings are topped with fine granite chips, providing a stable surface whatever the weather. They are 5.5m wide, a minimum of 8m long, and separated by grassed areas. You must pitch your caravan and awning on the hardstanding and park your car across the front. You will need to bring rock pegs or purchase some from our shop.
Grass Pitches & Tents
Our standard grass pitches are 10m wide. Maximum permitted tent dimensions are 6.5m x 7m. You must leave a minimum gap of 1.5m from the tent to edge of your pitch, whilst parking your car (average 2m x 4m) within the 10 x 10m area.
Large Tents
If you have a large tent, over 6 man or over 7m long (including any canopies or porches), you will need to tell us when you book. We have some pitches which are longer, but still only take a maximum width of 6.5m so you will need to pitch your tent appropriately.
You will need to book two pitches if:
1. You have a large tent AND
- more than one car
- over 6 people staying
- you wish to erect a gazebo,
2. Your tent is more than 6.5m in both dimensions, or more than 9m long.
You will not need to pay the service charge for the second pitch.
Gazebos & Day Tents
If you wish to use an open sided gazebo of maximum dimensions 3m x 3m you must let us know when you book your pitch. This is so that we can give you a large enough pitch. We charge £5 per night for gazebos.
If you wish to usea gazebo larger than 3m x 3m, or you wish to use a gazebo with enclosing sides, you will need to book an extra pitch. This is because they take up as much room as another tent and we need to ensure all units are positioned a safe distance apart.
Please note: ‘Coleman Event Shelters’ and ‘Day tents’ require their own pitch. You cannot use a gazebo on your pitch if you have a caravan and a full awning, a large tent (over 6 man or 7m long), or you are on a hardstanding pitch.
Tiny Tents
Two tiny tents can go onto one pitch, but they must be very small, for no extra charge.
Camping with Friends
You may use your pitch space flexibly but please ensure that all tents are pitched at least 3m apart and do not encroach on the space of other guests. We have areas suitable for caravans and tents to pitch together.
Extra Cars
We really don’t have the space for extra cars. Our open spaces are for children to play on, not to park cars. If you do bring a second car there is a charge of £5 per night.
Visitors
If you have visitors to your pitch during your stay, they must leave their cars outside the barrier. If they stay for longer than 2 hours, or after 5pm, you will need to register them with reception and pay the nightly charge for them, and their car.
Whilst we welcome visitors, please be reasonable. Do not allow your vistors to encroach on the space of our other guests. Our pitches take a maximum of 6 people, please consider this before you invite the whole family round!
Visitors may not use the camping park facilities, including our playground and swimming pool unless they have been paid for.
