Within walking distance from Thornton's Holt is Cotgrave Country Park. 

The park is a former Colliery Site has been extensively re-developed with good access paths suitable for walking, cycling and pushchairs.  It is now home to a wide variety of wildlife including kingfishers, herons and hares.

It's a great place to tire out the children or for walking dogs. The Gratham Canal passes thorough the park and continues on into the Vale of Belvoir.

Do you Like Shopping?  The centre of Nottingham is well known for it's great shopping.  From the bus stop 100m from the entrance to Thornton's Holt you can catch regular buses into the centre of Nottingham.

Whilst in Nottingham you may like to visit the Caves of Nottingham (www.cityofcaves.com), which are situated under the Broad Marsh Shopping Centre, or The Galleries of Justice.  For a challenge to young minds try the Green's Windmill, a working windmill with a hands on science and discovery centre (www.greensmill.org.uk).

Sherwood Forest Visitor Centre is just north of Nottingham, about 20-25 minutes drive from Thornton's Holt. The forest is a great place for walking and cycling. 

GO APE is at the Sherwood Pines Forest Park. This is a the high wire adventure trail through the trees.  A challenge for teenagers and brave adults! (www.goape.co.uk)

Younger children often enjoy The White Post Farm Park (www.thewhitepostfarm.co.uk) and Wheelgate Play Park (www.wheelgatepark.com) both situated at White Post, Farnsfield.

 

Fancy a Quieter Day Out? 

Belvoir Castle is about 15 minutes drive away (www.belvoircastle.com) and often holds weekend events.  To the north there is Newstead Abbey the former home of Lord Byron set in beautiful parkland and gardens.(www.newsteadabbey.org.uk).
