Cotgrave Country Park

Open grassland, woodland & lakes, with paths suitable for walking, running, bikes & pushchairs. Dogs love it!


Walk there from Thornton's Holt or call in at the car park close to Cotgrave village.

National Watersports Centre

Hosts regular watersports & triathlon events & has an extensive range of adventure activities for all ages and abilities.

Grantham Canal

Winds through the Cotgrave Country Park, and on into the Vale of Belvoir. 


It passes through many rural villages, with plenty of opportunities for a pub stop.


Pick up the towpath where it crosses  roads along its route, or walk from Thornton's Holt.

Head into the city by car, bus or bike, it's not far from Thornton's Holt

City of Nottingham

Famous for its shopping & nightlife, just hop on the bus and you will soon be there.


Nottingham is home to the famous Ye Old Trip to Jerusalem Inn. 


A staff  favourite place is Annie's Burger Shack in Hockley.  Grab a great burger & check out the local bars.


Visiting the kids at University? Both Nottingham Uni & Nottingham Trent Uni are a short drive away.

City Visitor Attractions

For a day out visit Nottingham Castle, The Galleries of Justice, or the City of Caves.


The Corner House Complex is home to a Cinema, Casino, Lost City Adventure Golf and several restaurants. It is close to the Theatre Royal and Concert Hall.


Popular with all the kids is Spy Missions, Planet Bounce and War Hammer World.





Close by are several sporting venues Trent Bridge Cricket Ground, Notitngham Forest Ground, Notts County Meadow Lane & the Nottingham Panthers at the ice arena. Hop on the bus.


The Watersports Centre Hosts Outlaw Triathlon, rowing, white water kayaking, open water swimming & many other events throughout the year. Good to watch if you don't want to get wet!

Radcliffe, Cotgrave & Further Away

Radcliffe-on Trent

Sitting by the River Trent as it rises up on to cliffs, Radcliffe boasts a beautiful cliff top walk to Shelford.


The village has several pubs, cafes, takeaways & resturants.


Walk or cycle there on the multiuser path or park in the village.






Between Thornton's Holt and the of old mining village of Cotgrave sits the Country Park, which was previously the old collery site.


There's a local Sainsburys on the Main Road for stocking up on supplies.  More shops, pharmacy and takeways are on the precint.

Further Away

Sherwood Forest is north of Nottingham. It's about 20-25 minutes drive away.


Sherwood Pines is home to Go Ape and other outdoor adventure activities.


For a quieter walk try the parks at Rufford Abbey or Newstead Abbey.


Popular National Trust Properties in the area are Clumber Park, Belton House, and the Workhouse at Southwell.

For Young Children

Young kids enjoy The White Post Farm Park and Ferry Farm Park.  Twin Lakes and Wheelgate are popular local theme parks for younger children.


Youngsters of all ages will enjoy a trip to Rushcliffe Country Park, just south of Ruddington on the A60, NG11 6JS - it has a large playground with facilities for all ages, a skateboard/scooter track and a BMX track.  For our canine friends there is even a dog agility playground area. The Great Central Railway is next to the park, so at the weekends Steam Trains regularly pass by.  The park is free to use, with a small parking charge.


Ed and Mollys Playbarn is a large indoor play centre at East Bridgford Garden Centre, NG13 8LA.
