Our Facilities

Thornton's Holt accomodates caravans, motorhomes & tents.  With 155 pitches set in 14 acres of carefully landscaped park land we aim to create a relaxing & peaceful place for families to stay.

Our hardstanding pitches are available throughout out the year, and grass pitches are available from April until October.

We leave open areas and copses which are perfect for children to explore and play.

New Washrooms

Our new washroom building boasts spacious showers, underfloor heating, solar water heating, three family rooms, and a disabled facility.

We have an indoor heated swimming pool, a childrens play area, washing up sinks, a laundry, ice block freezer, and a small shop on site.

Free WIFI is available in our reception area.

Most importantly we have plenty of fresh air and space for the children to run round - bicycles are welcome.

Just over the road is The Shepherds Pub & Carvery, and also the bus stop with a frequent service to West Bridgford, Nottingham & Cotgrave.  The local villages of Cotgrave and Radcliffe on Trent have a good selection of small supermarkets, bakeries, and takeaways of every description.

Bring your pets

Family pets are welcome at Thornton's Holt.  Remember to keep your dog on a lead & don't leave it unattended.

Our resident 'family' of animals currently includes our three cats Bobbles, Perkins, & Spook, our fabulous terrier Pickle, Silver the Border Collie, two horses Spike & Spartacus, and Freddie the Reception Whippet.  We usually have too many chickens to count!

Thornton's Holt is also home to lots of wildlife - from the rabbits bouncing around the pitches to the abundant wild bird population.  Sorry but the dawn chorus can be loud!  Listen out for the owls at night that nest on the neighbouring farm and look for the buzzards regularly flying overhead.

Local Walks & Cycling

Walkers and cyclists can explore the Cotgrave Country Park, the Grantham Canal, and the Holme Pierrepont Country Park which is part of the National Watersports Centre.  These parks are connected by a local network of cycle and footpaths, which you can join outside our main entrance. Maps are available from reception.

Cotgrave Country Park  is a former colliery site  that has been extensively re-developed with good access tracks suitable for walking, cycling and pushchairs.  It's a great place to tire out the children or for walking dogs.  The Grantham Canal passes thorough the park and continues on into the Vale of Belvoir.

The National Watersports Centre & Holme Peirrepont Country Park is under a mile from Thornton's Holt.  It hosts regular watersports and triathlon events and is a good place for walking and cycling.

Local Attractions

Sherwood Forest Vistor Centre is just north of Nottingham, about 20-25 minutes drive from Thornton's Holt.  The forest is a great place for walking and cycling.

GO APE is at the Sherwood Pines Forest Park. This is a high wire adventure trail through the trees.  A challenge for teenagers and brave adults!

Younger children enjoy The White Post Farm Park and Ferry Farm Park.  Twin Lakes and Wheelgate are popular local theme parks for younger children.

Youngsters of all ages will enjoy a trip to Rushcliffe Country Park, just south of Ruddington on the A60, NG11 6JS - it has a large playground with facilities for all ages, a skateboard midi half pipe and a BMX track.  For our canine friends there is even a dog agility playground area. The Great Central Railway is next to the park, so at the weekends Steam Trains regularly pass by.  The park is free to use, with a small parking charge.

For those seeking a quieter time you may like Belvoir Castle or Newstead Abbey.

Nottingham City

Nottingham is well known for shopping and a vibrant nightlife.  There is a regular bus service into the city centre.

It is also home to the Galleries of Justice Museum, the City of Caves, Nottingham Castle, the oldest pub in England the Trip to Jerusalem, and War Hammer World.

The Rules and Regs'
